An 11-year-old boy who stole his mom’s SUV is hospitalized after losing control and crashing on Detroit’s west side early Wednesday morning.
WWJ’s Ron Dewey reports the boy’s mother was sleeping around 3:30 a.m. when the boy took the car keys and decided to go for a spin.
The joyride ended when the boy crashed the Dodge Journey into a utility pole near Joy Road and Spinosa, just east of Telegraph.
The car ended up on its side with the utility pole through the driver’s seat, and the child wrapped around it but still alive.
“The little boy said ‘Tell my mom I’m sorry,'" said a passer-by. "Please tell her I’m sorry,’ and ‘I hope I’m not in a whole lot of trouble.’"
