It would be worth it to get on ABC's "Shark Tank" just to hear investor Kevin O'Leary, "Mr. Wonderful," say his famous words: "You're dead to me."
Some local investors might get that opportunity.
Brian J. O'Connor of the Detroit News reports that 150 startup business owners on Monday got 90 seconds each to pitch casting agents for the show at the offices of tech training firm Grand Circus Detroit on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit.
People with startups or established businesses go on the show to try and convince the investors to put up money for a share of the business.
On Monday, Metro Detroit entrepreneurs bearing everything from a stick that helps you smile to a smartphone app that bulks you up turned out, O'Connor writes.
“We’re looking for entrepreneurs who care passionately about their business,” Mindy Zemrak, casing manager for the show tells the News. “Passion goes along way, more than sales numbers or market potential.”
Last year, a similar casting call in in Detroit landed Jess Sanchez-McClary, CEO of Detroit’s McClary Bros. mixing vinegars, a spot on the show, the News noted. Sanchez-McClary didn’t get a deal, but sales surged because of the exposure.
