Alexis Wiley of Fox 2 is blunt: "You would think 13 shootings in 24 hours would be worth a mention at a police press conference, but DPD brass seemed to see it differently," she notes.

The department spokesperson shut down the news conference after reporters refused to ignore the elephant in the room. Thirteen people were shot in Detroit in just 24 hours, five from one inclident, including a woman who was just hours away from a kidney transplant. She did not survive.

Detroit police were willing to ask for tips to solve that crime and highlight the fact that detectives tracked down the suspect in the now infamous attack at a Detroit gas station. But asking for overall numbers was somehow off topic.
