Two Detroit soul food restaurants are featured in “The People’s Place: Soul Food Restaurants and Reminiscences from the Civil Rights Era to Today,” a new book by Dave Hoekstra of Chicago, The Detroit News reports.
One of those is Baker's Keyboard Lounge, 20510 Livernois Ave., which serves up food including baked chicken, barbecue ribs, catfish and beef short ribs.
The other is Detroit Vegan Soul, 8029 Agnes St., which serves food that is 100% plant-based, trans-fat free and organic.
The book describes America’s historic food cultures, roots music and the kind of idiosyncratic mom-and-pop restaurants that are disappearing.
