Two charred bodies were found inside a Detroit Public Lighting Department substation on Friday.
Authorities said the men broke into the station in the 6600 block of Raymond near Harper Avenue on Detroit's east side and were electrocuted after touching a 24,000-volt conductor, reports Leonard Fleming of The Detroit News.
The unidentified bodies were found fused together around 6:50 a.m.
Fire officials assume the victims were there to grab copper.
"The only reason they would be in there is if they were stealing something," says Dave Fornell, deputy fire commissioner. "A substation is a maze of wires and open conductors and that type of thing."
