Downtown Detroit Jazz Festival
The food truck stations are missing from Cadillac Square these days. Instead, there big tents and some hustle and bustle as people set up for the Jazz Festival. Four days and five stages between Campus Martius and Hart Plaza mean serious jazz business. Plus, it's totally free!

The festival's schedule can be found here. If you're looking for pre or post festival digs, head for Trinosophes in Eastern Market, where the musicians' vibe will be a little more intimate and the coffee is tasty.

Hamtramck's 33rd Annual Labor Day Festival
You shouldn't need a reason to spend time in downtown Hamtramck. But if you want one, the bustling little enclave is back this year with their Labor Day fest. The bash includes rides, games, music, a 5K and undoubtedly coney dogs and polish food. Plus, watch the Hamtramck Yacht Club Canoe Races, which don't actually involve water. Instead, daring sailors shoot down the street in hand pushed canoes on wheels while spectators hit them with water balloons and super soakers. What could be bad about that?

Find the festival downtown between Caniff and Comoor. A full schedule is here.

So You've Decided You're Crazy?
This one is not exactly a weekend activity, but I'm going to bend the rules here. It's Labor Day, after all! The minds at Why Don't We Own This?, that wonderful Detroit property mapping website, are hosting So You've Decided You're Crazy: A Detroit & Wayne County Tax Auction Seminar. They're joining some real estate professionals to dish on nitty gritty intel needed to navigate buying a property in the Wayne County Tax Auction. It's a Detroit geek's dream come true, even if you don't plan on making a purchase.

Unfortunately, it doesn't happen until Wednesday.

Arts, Beats, and Eats
Royal Oak's annual fest is this weekend, featuring local and national restaurants, artists, and musicians. Deadline's Karolina Powalka suggests checking out Detroit band Shotgun Soul, "an eight-piece band that has an old school soul sound with a modern kick."

Arts, Beats, and Eats happens all weekend, while Shotgun Soul hits the stage at 3:30 PM Friday.

Bonus: The Ren Fest is still going on, Michigan has a State Fair, the Detroit Zoo is open late, and a Labor Day edition of Slow Roll.
