A first-class stamp back in 1961 cost four cents when Inkster's one and only Marvelettes had Motown's first No. 1 hit -- "Please Mr. Postman."

Now, 51 years later, Susan Whitall of the Detroit News reports that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland has put the group on the ballot for the first time as a nominee for the Hall of Fame in 2013.

Whitall reports that other 2013 nominees include: The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Albert King, Kraftwerk, The Meters, Randy Newman, N.W.A., Procol Harum, Public Enemy, Rush and Donna Summer.

The News reported that Marvelettes' Katherine Anderson Schaffner was thrilled to hear the news, saying : "Better late than never!"
