Major sporting events aren't all to do today through Sunfday. 

Play Ball: The home opener at Comerica Park is Friday at 1:10 p.m. against the Red Sox. Saturday and Sunday games also start at 1:10 p.m.  Comerica Park.

Detroit International Festival of Animation: Second annual event and showcases local a d international animators and filmmakers. It includes films and a gallery. Friday expo: 6 p.m.-midnight, shows 7 and 9 p.m.  Saturday expo 4 p.m.-midnight, shows 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Tangent Gallery/Hastings Ballroom, 715 E Milwaukee, Detroit. $10.

Farewell to The Joe -- The Wings play the Montreal Canadians on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the New Jersey Devils at 5 p.m. Sunday.  Current players and alumni will walk a red carpet to the east entrance at 2 p.m. Sunday. An hour-long post-game ceremony Sunday features speeches, question sessions and highlight videos with current players and more than 50 alumni. On Saturday, fans will receive a mini replica of Joe Louis Arena, courtesy of Kroger and MotorCity Casino Hotel. Ferndale Vintage Fashion Market: The event brings together some of the best vintage clothes dealers in the area. Fri., April 7, 2-9 p.m., Sat., April 8, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sun., April 9, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Rust Belt Market, 22801 Woodward Ave., Ferndale.

Documentary and Memorial Service for the late Jazz singer DJ "Jazz" Holiday -- Holiday passed away in February. Over the years, she  performed with some notable groups and was a regular presence every Thursday night at Bert's Marketplace in Eastern Market where she'd sing Billie Holiday songs. Sunday: 4 p.m.: Light buffet; 5 p.m.: Memorial Service. 6 p.m.: Documentary on her life.
