Security skittishness last Sept. 11 at Detroit Metro Airport led to a search and detention that the American Civil Liberties Union says were illegal.

It sued Tuesday in Detroit Federal Court on behalf of Shoshana Hebshi, who was heading home that day, as Niraj Warikoo reports in the Free Press:

tweet early Tuesday, Hebshi told friends: "Heading up to Detroit in the cold and snow to be a poster child :)"

She explained why she sees her case that way at an ACLU media briefing, as quoted by reporter Warikoo:  

"As an American citizen and a mom, I'm really concerned about my children growing up in a country where your skin color and your name can put your freedom and liberty at risk at any time."

"We often think of racial profiling as a problem that impacts other people. I am proof that racial profiling hurts us all."
