Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert has made it clear that he would like to see Detroit become a major tech center.
Microsoft would be a nice compliment to that.
Microsoft Corp. is considering relocating at least some Southfield offices into one of the downtown buildings owned by Gilbert's Bedrock Detroit, Ian Thibodeau and Louis Aguilar of The Detroit News report, citing "a source familiar with the negotiations between the two firms."
Microsoft, based in Redmond, Wash., occupies 52,000 square feet at the Southfield Town Center and is considering leasing around 50,000 square feet in downtown Detroit, the source says.
Gilbert didn't offer details on the tenant or which of his big construction plans would fire up this year.
