The sports world has its share of sad endings.
At one time or another, careers end.
Enter Tom Brookens, the Tigers former third base coach, who didn't always please fans with his decisions.
George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press reports that Brookens, 60, who wasn't retained by manager Brad Ausmus. Brookens describes himself as retired.
Brookens who played for the Tigers from 1978-88, says he's looked at other baseball jobs and talked to the Tigers about different positions.
“I talked with a couple teams,” Brookens said. “There was basically minor league positions, and that was it.”
He told the Freep that he either wanted to work in the majors or stay home in Pennsylvania.
“Seems a little strange. I feel like I should be gearing up to head to Florida,” Brookens said. “I’m not, but I’m fine with it. Ready to move on.” -- Allan Lengel
