TV and film actor Hill Harper, who has starred in the popular shows "CSI: NY" and "Homeland,"  has purchased downtown Detroit’s Roasting Plant Coffee and a home in the city's historic Boston-Edison neighborhood.

Update: He'll speak at the business Wednesday morning after remarks by Mayor Mike Duggan.

Vickie Thomas of WWJ will moderate a presentation by Harper about "how he’s reaching out and providing tactical work skills and professional growth opportunities for Detroit’s youth" through job training and involvement with local charitable organizations," a media alert says. The event runs from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Harper plans to use the coffee shop and cafe in the First National Building at 660 Woodward as a platform for his Manifest Your Destiny Foundation that helps underserved youths with work skills and professional growth, writes Melody Baetens of The Detroit News.

"Detroit is a great American city that was forged on innovation, social enterprise and entrepreneurship. My ownership of Roasting Plant Coffee in downtown Detroit builds upon that legacy," Harper said in a press release. "It is truly an honor and privilege for me to help fuel the Motor City, not just with Roasting Plant’s incomparable coffee, but by providing career paths and launching pads to greater success in a booming industry for young Detroiters hungry for opportunity and active mentorship.

“I believe in Detroit. It is truly a vibrant, unique and great American city.”
