Actor Jeff Daniels talks about his affection for the Michigan and the sequel to the movie "Dumb and Dumber."
"Michigan's always been home to me and Kathleen, and the kids. The support I get from here is not lost on me. It's appreciated, and I try to return it," Daniels explains in an interview at his Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea with WXYZ's Brad Galli
He said his neighbors in Chelsea watch for him.
"Most of them are really good. There's a general security detail going on. We get a lot of people that come through town and go, 'Where does Jeff Daniels live?' They'll say, 'We have no idea who you're talking about,'" he says.

The support surrounding Dumb and Dumber is what drove the Michigan native to make the sequel. After years of rumors swirling about a follow-up to the 1994 hit movie, Daniels and Jim Carrey will hit the big screen together again on November 14.
"It all boiled down to when and if Jim wanted to do it," Daniels says. "He didn't (want to do it) for the longest time. He didn't like sequels. So I got on with my career."
Carrey wanted to do other things, focus on bigger projects, and avoid anything close to the word sequel like it was a disease.
What changed his mind? The voices of fans. They kept getting louder.
"People kept talking about Dumb and Dumber. Jim asked me, 'Why do people kept talking about that movie?'" Daniels recalls.
Eventually, it happened.
Daniels also stars in the HBO show "The Newsroom," which begins its third and final season this Sunday.
