All nine GOP Congress members from Michigan voted Thursday for legislation to overhaul of health care , with the House narrowly approving the legislation 217-213, largely along party lines. Twenty Republicans voted no.
Rep. Justin Amash of the Grand Rapids area, who had vehemently opposed an earlier version of the bill, voted yes, as did Rep. Fred Upton, Melissa Nann Burke of the Detroit News reports. Michigan's five Democrats voted no.
The legislation now goes before the Senate, which is unlikely to pass it without changes.
Trump remarked the legislation "will get even better" in the Senate.
"Premiums will be coming down. Yes, deductibles will be coming down. But very importantly, it's a great plan and ultimately that's what its all about," Trump said. "This has brought the Republican Party together."
