Michigan Lottery

Some people like to brag about their riches.

Some would rather bask in relative anonymity.

Some state senators are trying to pave the way to accommodate the latter.

A state senate committee on Thursday passed a bill that allow winner of the state lottery to remain anonymous, Paul Egan of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Sen. Tory Rocca, R-Sterling Heights, told Egan that the anonymity might help winners avoid scam artists and violent criminals and money-grubbing relatives.

The Freep reports that the Michigan Lottery Bureau opposes the bill, fearing anonymity would take away publicity and depress ticket sales. -- A.L.
