Infielder-outfielder Andrew Romine, the most versatile player for the Detroit Tigers in quite a while, is gone. So is pitcher Anibal Sanchez, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

The Seattle Mariners have claimed Romine off waivers from the Tigers.  Romine, 31,  was capable -- and actually did -- play all nine positions.

The Tigers also decline the $16-million club option on Anibal Sanchez, buying out his contract for $5 million and making him a free agent, Beck reports. Sanchez went from an ace starter to a very inconsistent one, who looked terrible at times.

Outfielders Alex Presley, Tyler Collins and Jim Adduci were sent to the minor Leagues and are expected to become free agents. Right-hander Jeff Ferrell was also outrighted, and he will also be a free agent.

The moves open up spots on the Tigers roster as the team tries to rebuild.
