The year 2013 was a very good one for the Detroit Zoo.
Sherri Welch of Crain's Detroit business reports that attendance topped 1.3 million for the first time in 16 years. The prior year, 1.27 million visited the zoo in Royal Oak.
The 2013 figure marked the eighth year in a row that attendance was at 1 million or more, Crain's reported.
Welch writes:
The "Wild Lights" holiday light display presented by Bank of America — which continues through Jan. 5 — helped boost attendance numbers, drawing more than 30,000 guests to date, the Royal Oak-based zoo said.
