Ordinary Americans take a stand in the Trump era, as this Ann Arbor incident shows:

An owner of Cafe Zola at 112 W. Washington St. wiuldn't let two Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents enter the kitchen Wednesday afternoon to look for somebody, Jessica Haynes of MLive reports.

The federal agents came around 2 p.m. and asked about an individual, but did not divulge the name, owner Alan Zakalik says. He wasn't there but his wife, Hediye Batu, turned away the agents.

Khaalid Walls, an ICE spokesman, issues a statement:

"Today's enforcement operations are a part of routine, daily targeted operations conducted by ICE in this region and around the country every day, targeting criminal aliens and other immigration violators. No arrests were made."
