Applebee's Steps into Detroit with Restaurant on 8 Mile

It may not the the biggest news in the culinary world, even for Detroit, but it marks another first for the city.

Applebee's, a Kansas CIty-based chain, opened on Monday along 8 Mile Road at the Gateway Marketplace in Detroit, where Meijer is the anchor store, JC Reindl of the Detroit Free Press reports.

It's Applebee's first restaurant in the city. It is operated by TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants.

The Freep reports that the restaurant was about half full during the start of Monday's lunch-hour rush.
