Do the Red Wings know something about the NHL free agent market that they’re not telling us?
The team posted this puppy photo on their Facebook page today, seemingly suggesting that Detroit hockey fans should stand at the ready for pending good news. Perhaps the Wings are putting together a Miami Heat-like free agency dream team with Ryan Suter in the role of Chris Bosh and Zach Parise as your new LeBron James (of sorts).
Don’t worry. New Jersey Devils owner Jeffrey Vanderbeek is a strict Helvetica man.
Or maybe it's just a cute puppy photo for the sake of a cute puppy photo. Cute puppy photos are pretty much the reason for Facebook's existence. Still, no self-respecting hockey-crazed puppy waits by the window for a fourth line forward. Expectations have been raised here.
We called the Red Wings to find out if there was in fact a hidden message here. No one has called back, but that’s ok. It’s not like they would tell us if Suter was basically a done deal but for the paperwork.
Either way, based on reports, we know the Wings have made strong plays to land both Suter and Parise. Hopefully, they’ll sign one or both very soon.
UPDATE: Our brave puppy is still waiting by that window, but the Freep reports that Ken Holland met with Ryan Suter at the defenseman's home and offered him a $90 million contract. Seriously Suter, if $90 million and the love this puppy aren't enough to get you to Detroit, then clearly you have no soul. -- JTW
