Aretha Franklin at 2009 inauguration
The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, was presented with a hypothetical on Sunday night: If asked, would she perform at President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20?
"That's a good question," she said, according to Judy Kurtz of The Hill newspaper.
"That's a very good question," she repeated with a wide smile before pausing at Sunday's Kennedy Center Honors. "We'll see."
She sang,"America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee)," at President Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009.
She was among notables at the event honoring pianist Martha Argerich, actor Al Pacino, The Eagles, gospel singer Mavis Staples and musician James Taylor.
Stephen Colbert, the ceremony's emcee for the third year in a row, said to the crowd: "Welcome ladies and gentlemen, politicians, diplomats, endangered swamp dwellers."
