First-term Michigan Reps. Todd Courser, 43, and Cindy Gamrat, 42.

As expected, a special committee voted Thursday to give Republican Reps. Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat the boot and expel them the House for  misconduct and misuse of taxpayer resources to conceal an extramarital affair, the Detroit News reports.

The four Republicans on the panel voted for expulsion, Chad Livengood of the News reports. The two Democrats decided to abstain. The vote now goes before the full House.

“This episode must be put behind us,” said Rep. Ed McBroom, the Dickinson County Republican chairman of the committee, according to the News. “Neither representative has in my mind convinced me that they will be able to regain the public trust.”

The two Dems who abstained said it was premature to take a vote after two days of hearings, and said the investigation should continue to get more facts on the issue.
