B.B. King, the legendary king of blues, who was noted for such songs as "The Thrill is Gone," died Thursday at his Las Vegas home at age 89.
Susan Whitall pens his obituary in the Detroit News and writes that King spent a very special day in Detroit way back in 1958.
She writes:
He was well-known in Detroit, and even married his second wife, Sue King, here in 1958. It was a ceremony presided over by the Rev. C.L. Franklin, the famed minister of New Bethel Baptist Church and father of Aretha.
A book, The B.B. King Reader: 6 Decades of Commentary, went into a little more detail, writing:
Long divorced from his first wife Martha, B.B. King married another woman from Indianapolis, Mississippi, Sue Cook. The ceremony was held in Detroit on June 4, 1958, with Aretha Franklin's father, the Rev. C.L. Franklin officiating.
