Going vegetarian or vegan and giving up that occasional burger isn't always easy for everyone.
Now this.
Michael Symon's B Spot Burgers joints in Rochester Hills and Royal Oak are now serving a "plant-based yet deceptively meat-like, bleeding Impossible Burger,' reports Brenna Houck of Eater Detroit.
The burgers were developed by Silicon Valley tech startup Impossible Foods. They get their “bleeding” quality and meat-like flavor from a substance called soy leghemoglobin found in the roots of soybean plants.
Houck reports:
Impossible Foods is just one of many new startups seeking to entice both meat eaters and non-meat eaters with bleeding burgers. Competitor Beyond Meat already entered the Michigan market through grocery chain Kroger in August with patties offered in the meat aisles. It’s also currently being offered at BurgerFi in Northville.
Pat O. Brown, the founder of Impossible Foods has a quote on the company website:
"Today we rely on cows to turn plants into meat. There has to be a better way."
