Authorities were trying to get to the bottom of an unusual mystery in China Township in St. Clair County.
Andrea Isom of Fox2 reports that at least five bags of human remains were found Wednesday near Arlington Road and Fred Moore Highway. It was unclear if the parts belonged to one or more persons.
The bags of remains were found near Allington Road and Fred Moore Highway.
"We are treating this incident as a homicide," said Sheriff Donnellon in a news release. "We are asking for the public's help to solve this crime. If anyone observed anything unusual in the area of Fred Moore Highway and Allington Road between noon and 4 p.m., please contact our office at 810-985-8115."
Police were following up on a witness tip that a woman -- possibly a 1990s SUV -- dumped the bags.
