The former chief of staff is ahead of the former mayor -- way ahead -- in paying court-ordered restitution to Detroit, Robert Snell reports in The Detroit News reports.

Kwame Kilpatrick hasn't paid restitution to the city in months and prospects are dim considering he says he is broke and is facing 20 years or more in prison.

But his former mistress, Christine Beatty, is paying enough for both of them.

Beatty paid $1,000 in restitution Friday — twice her normal monthly payment. ...

In contrast, Snell notes, the imprisoined ex-mayor's last payment of $500 was Feb. 20.

Beatty, who served 120 days in jail and now lives in Georgia, agreed to pay $100,000 to the city as part of an obstruction of justice guilty plea stemming from lies she and Kilpatrick told under oath during a whistleblower trial. She owes $81,817.

She has consistently paid $500 a month since January 2012, Melanie Scott Dorsey writes in the Detroit Free Press.

Kilpatrick was ordered to pay $1 million in restitution in the case. He owes $854,062.
