An Army veteran from Milford, elected last fall to represent his congressional district in Washington, tells Republican residents how rewarding it would be to submit a bill to impeach President Obama.
Here's part of what Rep. Kerry Bentivolio says in remarks taped Monday at a Birmingham Bloomfield Republican Club meeting in Birmingham's Big Rock Chop House:
“If I could write that bill and submit it, it would be a dream come true. I stood 12 feet away from the guy and listened to him. I couldn’t stand being there, but because he is president I have to respect the office.
"That’s my job, as a congressman, I respect the office.”
Classy, huh? He respects the presidential seal and that oval-shaped room in the big house on Pennsylvania Avenue.
"There are some people out there . . . [who think] he's still the greatest president they’ve ever had," complains Rep. Kerry Bentivolio. "That’s what you’re fighting”
He also tells constituents what pesky hurdle stands between him and that dream bill:
“Until we have evidence, you’re going to become a laughingstock if you’ve submitted the bill to impeach the president because number one, you’ve got to convince the press.
“There are some people out there no matter what Obama does he’s still the greatest president they’ve ever had. That’s what you’re fighting.”
Not debating or persuading like in the old days, mind you -- "fighting."

The freshman representative's comments are "inflammatory," Michigan's Democratic chair says Wednesday in a four-paragraph news release.
This outrageous statement is just another sign he’s not fit to serve," adds Lon Johnson. “Rep. Bentivolio showed that he’d rather wage tired ideological political battles and give us more Washington dysfunction than do anything to create jobs or focus on Michigan’s middle class.”
Bentivolio represents the 11th Congressional District, covering parts of northwestern Wayne and southwestern Oakland Counties -- including Westland, Garden City, Farmington, Livonia, Plymouth, Canton, Novi and Northville.
