American Legion Post 374 in Berkley is protesting the protestors of the NFL.
Wright Wilson writes in the Detroit Free Press that the social club for military veterans has decided not to show televised games of NFL teams in which players have refused to stand during the national anthem. Those teams include San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams.
The executive board passed a resolution posted in the club that says: “This post will not participate with any individual, group or organization that disrespects or knowing allows the disrespecting of our Constitution, United States or American Flag, or our National Anthem," the Freep reports.
That means the club won't be showing the 1 p.m. game on Sunday between the Lions and the Rams at Ford Field.
The club is losing business. Some people are going elsewhere to watch the game, the paper reports.
“We do take a hit because people come in to our clubhouse to watch games; a lot of times, we’ll have food specials and stuff. We can’t do it right now,” post commander Tom Bustance, 74, who served four years in the Vietnam War as a tactical wing with the Air Force, tells the paper. “We’re all veterans; we respect our country, we fought for our country, we respect our flag and our constitution."
