When it comes to crime stats, the upscale suburb of Birmingham has the right to brag.

In 2016, it recorded 19 burglaries for both residential and commercial properties, the lowest number since the city began collecting figures more than 50 years ago, reports Jay Grossman of the Observer & Eccentric.

“To have only 19 burglaries in a city of 20,000 residents is something I truly find amazing,” Police Chief Mark Clemence tells the paper.  “It is something that the city should be proud of and that residents should feel good about. That said, even one burglary is too many."

In 2006, 83 burglaries were reported. Back in 1986, the number was 715.

Other crime stats that have dropped in the past 10 years:

  •  Assaults went from 144 in 2006 to 48 cases in 2016.
  • Stolen vehicles went from 23 in 2006 to 10 last year.
  •  Drunken driving arrests declined from 112 in 2006 to 65 last year.
