Bob Bashara

Starting today, the prime suspect in the 2012 murder of Grosse Pointe Park marketing executive Jane Bashara will go on trial in Wayne County Circuit Court: Her husband.

According to Elisha Anderson and Gina Damron in the Free Press, the case against Bob Bashara shocked Grosse Pointe, garnered national attention, led to a multi-agency investigation and has been full of scandalous twists and turns, including mistresses, a secret sex lifestyle and dungeon involving bondage and allegations of murder-for-hire plots.

Bashara, 56, a former Rotary Club president and charity fund-raiser, quickly became a person of interest in the case. He faces a slew of charges, including first-degree murder.

The trial may last four to six weeks; dozens of witnesses are expected to testify.

Richard Krisciunas, a University of Detroit Mercy law professor and a former Wayne County assistant prosecutor, told the Free Press the case has captured so much attention because of what it encompasses: sex and murder.

"Look at all the shows on TV," he said. "This is TV come to life."
