In a job that poses many dangers, some help is on the way.
Detroit firefighters and emergency technicians may soon be equipped with body armor, George Hunter of The Detroit News reports.
Fire Commissioner Eric Jones secured funding for the protective gear, which he says is sorely needed.
“We just had an EMT shot in Dallas,” he said. “The way things are going here in Detroit lately, I’m surprised no [employees] have been shot. But it’s the law of averages. My guys have to be safe out there.”
Over the years, several firefighters and EMTs have been attacked.
