Police had called it an accidental shooting.
But on Wednesday the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced that an 11-year-old boy was charged in the fatal shooting of Elijah Walker,3, in Detroit on Monday, Gina Damron of the Detroit Free Press reported.
The paper reports that the boy faces manslaughter — death by weapon aimed with intent but without malice and felony firearm.
The paper reports that the boy was visiting his father’s home in the 16000 block of Eastwood and took a handgun from a bedroom closet and it out of a window into the backyard.
He took the gun and got into a parked car, which the 3-year-old boy also got into.
The 11 year old then shot the boy, 3, in the face.
“I cannot remember a time where we have charged someone so young with taking a life. Very unfortunate and very tragically, the alleged facts in this case demanded it,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement. “The charged respondent here will remain in the juvenile system, but the case remains under investigation. As a result of that, I will not say more at this time.”
