After the Tigers’ 5-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night, manager Brad Ausmus criticized the MLB replay standard.

In the bottom of the fifth, Anthony Gose’s slid into home plate and was called out, ending the Tigers rally. The run would have given the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

After the Tiger’s challenged and saw the replay, Ausmus along with replay coordinator Matt Martin thought there was sufficient evidence to overturn the original ruling. But no. The relay officials in New York upheld the call.

According to the Detroit Free Press, in the post-game interviews, Ausmus said, “I'd like someone to explain to me what sufficient and insufficient evidence is because last year, we had a pretty good idea of what that was and I can't tell you what that is this year, I really can't.”

“The way the system's set up you can't talk to the people but I don't know that there's a better way to do that. I don't think you'll ever be able to talk to the person making the final decision regardless of where it's being reviewed,” Ausmus added.

Because of the current challenge system in the MLB, once the long deliberation was over and the Replay Official made his call, there was nothing Ausmus or anyone else on the Tigers’ staff could do.
