Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson says he's sorry.
Patterson used Twitter late Friday to apologize after he angered politicians and real people from both sides of the political aisle by calling fellow Republican and state Speaker of the House Jase Bolger “Adolf Bolger.”
During a discussion on his opposition to proposed no-fault auto insurance reformson WKAR public television’s “Off the Record” Friday morning, Patterson also pulled a comb from his pocket and put it over his lip like the Nazi leader’s infamous mustache.
“Adolf Bolger, he’s throwing his weight around … and embarrassing himself,” Patterson said.
Kathleen Gray of the Free Press writes that the comments illustrated how hot of an issue the no-fault debate has become, and capped a week that included hours of emotional debate on the issue from supporters and opponents — many who came to Lansing in their wheelchairs — and prompted at least one death threat that was called into the office of Sen. Joe Hune, R-Hamburg Township, the chairman of the Senate Insurance committee that will be the first stop for no-fault insurance reform legislation in that chamber.
