Brothers Sell Classic-Looking Athens Coney Island On Woodward in Royal Oak

The Athens Coney Island, the classic looking diner on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, is changing ownership after 37 years.

Laura Cassar of Crain's Detroit Business reports that brothers and co-owners Mark and Greg Mitchell have sold to a husband-and-wife team Zef and Marija Dedvukaj.

"It was time," Mark Mitchell told Crain's.  "Time to move on and enjoy some life."

When the brothers first took over the joint, it had only six items on the menu, Crain's reports. Eventually, they had more than 50 items.

They bought the place from the original owner Bill Lipson. In 2002, they did a complete teardown and rebuilt it
