Before the 2019 season even begins, it may be over for Tigers All-Star right-hander Michael Fulmer.

He's been recommended for Tommy John surgery on his right elbow after an MRI revealed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Tommy John surgery would definitely end the season for Fulmer, who's seeking a third doctor's opinion before deciding.

Fulmer has been rehabbing his surgically repaired right knee after being shut down from game action to work on his lower-body mechanics. He threw a bullpen session last Friday in front of club officials, but apparently felt discomfort in his right elbow afterwards, according to club officials. He had the MRI after that.
