Coach Jim Caldwell

When  Lions coach Jim Caldwell recently fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and offensive line coaches Jeremiah Washburn and Terry Heffernan, he said he didn't consult with the Ford family.

“I haven’t spoken with them, but I’m sure they’re supportive,” he said Monday, according to Josh Katzenstein of The Detroit News.

But Caldwell clarified that he didn't make the decision alone, The News reports.

And when asked if he got input from Lions general manager Martin Mayhew, he said:

“I’m in control of what happens with our staff. I make all those decisions, but it doesn’t mean I don’t consult with people. . . , Let’s put it this way: It’s idiotic to think that I went along and made some moves without telling anybody above me. It doesn’t happen that way.”
