Gov. Rick Snyder
There was a time when Gov. Rick Snyder's political fortunes were great. He flirted with the idea of running for president. His name popped up as a potential vice presidential candidate. Presidential candidates wanted his backing. His name also popped up as potential cabinet member on the chance a Republican won the White House.
Then Flint flushed all that political fortune down those corroded pipes.
Snyder is now fighting for political relevance,.Jonathan Oosting writes in The Detroit News:
On Thursday, Snyder is making his first state business trip outside Michigan since declaring on Jan. 5 a state emergency in Flint — except for his March 17 testimony in Washington, D.C., before a congressional committee. He will visit New York to talk to credit agencies, economic development site selectors and even a group of journalists.
It appears to be the first attempt at emerging from crisis management and injecting some normalcy into the governor’s schedule.
“I’m sure that Gov. Snyder would give anything to go back in time to 2015, back when everybody was speculating he was going to run for president or be on the ticket,” said Susan Demas, editor of Inside Michigan Politics. “… It has been a pretty amazing turnaround.”
