A would-be carjacker got more than he bargained for when he tried to make off with a 1995 Buick Roadmaster at a BP gas station on Detroit's east side on Tuesday morning.
The owner of the car started firing at the carjacker who eventually ran off. Police said it is unclear if the suspect was hit by gunfire.
Detroit Police Officer Keisha Beasley-Dorsey said the incident began around 6:40 a.m. at the BP gas station at East Outer Drive and Harper.
The owner of the car was putting air in his tires when a man came up from behind him and said "I'll kill you," police said. He then jumped in the car and tried to drive off, but the owner produced a gun and shot through the windshield, Officer Beasley-Dorsey says.
The suspect then grabbed a crow bar from the car and started chasing after the owner, but gave up and fled.
Charlie Langton of WWJ reports that the car owner had a concealed pistol license. Police didn't confirm that.
