As Justin Verlander and the Tigers were going up in flames in Comerica Park on Sunday afternoon, so were some cars in a nearby lot.

Thick black smoke and flames erupted around 3 p.m. at Prime Parking, between Gratiot Avenue, Madison and Beaubien streets, Priya Mann of WDIV reports that .

Seven vehicles were destroyed and another two were damaged from the heat. Authorities believe an electrical problem in one vehicle ignited the fire. 

The Tigers lost 9-3. In the top of the fourth, with the score tied 1-1, Verlander gave up six runs. He was taken out before finishing the inning.  The Tigers are 10 1/2 games out of first.
