Multiple reasons to raise foamy glasses at Thursday night's Batch Brewing Co. debut in Corktown include a toast to a business-friendlier city.

Co-founder Stephen Roginson shares that observation with Karen Dybis at Detroit Unspun, the Detroit Regional News Hub's blog.

Getting Detroit zoning approval, building permits, inspections and a certificate of occupancy for 1400 Porter St. wasn’t totally smooth, the start-up entrepreneur acknowledges. But it wasn’t that bad, either, Dybis reports.

Here's some of what the nano-brewer says about his team's journey since fall 2012:

“It’s incredibly exciting to open a business in the city. . . .

“Right now, the city is going through a pretty incredible transformation to make it easier for businesses to get their doors open. Every single person that I worked with seemed to be genuinely interested in opening Batch Brewing Company up.

“We were able to have a front-row seat and even an influence to participate in the conversation to make it easier for businesses to open their doors. We’ve had a lot of luck and built up a lot of great relationships in the city from the zoning offices to building and safety to engineering and design. . . . That’s no small testament to how willing the city is to help businesses open."
