Chauncey Owens was sentenced Friday to life in prison without parole for the shooting of Detroit teenager Je'Rean Blake. The case was closely related to the murder of 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones in 2010.
According to prosecutors, the gun Owens used was given to him by Aiyana's father, Charles Jones. Police were searching for Jones during a raid when Aiyana was shot by police officer Joseph Weekley.
Jones was convicted of second-degree murder in February, but has not been sentenced yet. Owens was convicted of first-degree murder. Officer Weekley will be retried after jurors failed to reach a unanimous decision.
