The Apparatus Room at the old Detroit Fire Department headquarters at 250 W. Larned St. earns raves, thanks to Michelin two-star chef Thomas Lents, a Battle Creek native who came from a restaurant at Trump Tower Chicago.

In January, he told the Detroit Free Press that a cancer scare -- it's now in remission -- changed his priorities.  So did the presidential election.

"I've been very lucky to work with some very talented and very caring people inside the hotel," he said. "That being said, the election has been difficult for everyone involved and frustrating to see all the great product that's been put out by this hotel suffer because of situations that are outside of our control."

Now, Jane Slaughter writes about the restaurant in Metro Times under this headline: "Review: Trump’s loss is Detroit’s gain at Apparatus Room."

Yes, while under Lents' charge, Trump's Sixteen restaurant was rated at two Michelin stars ("excellent cooking, worth a detour"). I have no data, but likely some potential diners decided that any Trump property was worth detouring away from...

Just about everything my friends and I sampled at the Apparatus Room was fantastic. As one would hope.
