Some have raised questions over time whether the Ilitch organization has gotten special treatment from the city over the years.
In May, the Detroit Free Press reported that two Ilitch properties near Little Caesars Arena -- the former Hotel Ansonia at 2447 Cass Ave. and the former Atlanta Apartments at 2467 Cass Ave. -- had not received a blight ticket since 2009 even though it was clear they were in violation of city ordinances. Days later, the city issued tickets demanding that a series of corrections be made by May 30.
Now, after first getting a week and a half to make the corrections, the Ilitches now have until July 9 — a five-and-a-half-week extension — to make the fixes, writes Allie Gross of the Freep.
