Recent years have brought amazing transformations in downtown, Midtown and Corktown. But what about some of the gems?
Megan Frye of Thrillist lists 21, including a few in the 'burbs, and writes:
Detroit today is not Detroit 10 years ago. Hell, it’s not Detroit 10 months ago; it’s not even the same city it was last week. We’ve got foreign investors out the wazoo, transplants from some of the hippest cities in the world, and what seems like a new bar and restaurant opening its doors more frequently than the People Mover.
Thrillist's list of 21 includes some places in Metro Detroit that are part of the history the area.
These are among the classics:
- Belle Isle Conservancy
- John K. King Used & Rare Books
- Palmer Park
- Sam's Barber Shop (downtown)
- Elmer's Hamburgers (8515 Chicago W, Detroit)
- Jumbo’s (midtown)
- Baker’s Keyboard Lounge (Livernois)
- The Garden Bowl (midtown)
- Redford Theatre
- Xochimilco (Mexicantown)
