When Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump spoke Monday at the Detroit Economic Club, he painted a pretty bleak picture.

"The city of Detroit is where our story begins. Detroit was once the economic envy of the world. The people of Detroit helped to power America to its position of global dominance in the 20th Century. When we were governed by the America first policy, Detroit was absolutely booming … But for many living in this city, that dream has long ago vanished."

Contrast that with Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton who spoke Thursday at Futuramic Tool & Engineering in Warren Clinton where she tried to paint a stark contrast with what Trump said at the Detroit Economic Club, John Gallagher and Kathleen Gray of the Detroit Free Press write. She criticized Trump, saying he only talked about poverty and crime in Detroit.

“America’s best days are still ahead of us if we make up our minds to actually go out and make that happen," Clinton said, noting that Trump "hasn’t offered any credible solutions” on economic challenges.

“He is missing so much about what makes Michigan great. He describes America as an embarrassment. He says we’re becoming a third world country. Look around you, my friends," Clinton said, according to the Freep report.

“You can really feel the dynamism that is driving this state’s comeback. The auto industry just had it best year ever. Over in Ann Arbor high tech firms are thriving… and here at Futuramic, so well named, you are on the front lines of what I believe will be a true manufacturing renaissance in America.”
