The six-paragraph memo sent Friday to Romulus Mayor Alan Lambert by his police chief is far from routine, Bill Proctor reports on WXYZ.

Chief Robert Dickerson quit Friday.

"You should immediately resign from elected office as a result of the current investigation being conducted by the Michigan State Police," says Chief Robert Dickerson, who adds: "Your decision to stay in office, in light of what has transpired recently, has left me no choice but to submit to you my resignation."

The move came four days after investiagtors with a search warrant spent 12 hours collecting undisclosed evidence at Lambert's home. Police are only saying the raid was conducted as part of an ongoing Romulus corruption investigation, WXYZ reported earlier.

Economic Development Director Tim Keyes also quit Friday, George Hunter writes Saturday in The Detroit News. "I can no longer in good conscience work for the current city administration," Keyes says in a statememt.

Dickerson's departure letter, posted at the link below, says the mayor brings "shame, mistrust and embarrassment on the community."

The chief, a 25-year veteran of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, has led the force since September 2011.
