Drought, a local cold-pressed juice company with multiple Metro Detroit sites, has moved its Midtown shop to downtown Detroit in the Chrysler House at Griswold and Fort Streets.
Tuesday was the second day at the new location; a small, simple space. The company, founded about four years ago by the James sisters -- Caitlin, Julie, Jenny and Jessie -- also has locations in six other spots including Royal Oak and downtown Plymouth.
Mike Poretta, who was working behind the counter Tuesday at 719 Griswold (#110), and is a cousin of the owners, says the company had been itching to open downtown spot for quite some time.
The juices, which are all natural, aren't cheap.
A 16-ounce bottle made from beets, apple, carrot and lemon is $10. A drink of collard greens, broccoli, cabbage, celery and lemon is $11. And a one-ounce shot of ginger is $4.
Poretta says the price is actually reasonable considering that the bottles of juice hold up to 5 1/2 pounds of produce.
Customer Grant Golasa, who works at Quicken Loans, was curious and asked Poretta of the drinks actually taste good. Poretta, of course, said yes.
He then bought a juice made up of watermelon, grapes and tangerines.
After a few sips, Golasa agreed, declaring it quite "tasty" and "fresh."
