Rep. Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, is accusing Gov. Rick Snyder's administration of obstructing the panel's probe into the Flint water crisis.

Cummings on Friday wrote to Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, asking him to subpoena the Snyder administration to force it to turn over certain documents within 30 days, reports Melissa Nann Burke of The Detroit News Washington bureau.

“The governor has refused to provide — or even search for — key documents,” wrote Cummings, D-Maryland.

“As a result, the Committee is still unable to answer critical questions about what the Governor knew about the crisis as it unfolded, why he did not act on concerns about water quality, even while his inner circle sounded repeated alarms, and why families in Flint continue to subsist on bottled water almost a year after he declared an emergency.”
