When a public officials steps into a pile manure, they get plenty of unwanted attention.
Here's something controversial Michigan State Police Director Kriste Kibbey Etue would, in all likelihood, prefer to keep out of the press.
Michael Gerstein, and Jonathan Oosting of The Detroit News report:
When she decides to retire, she'll leave the force with more than a half-million dollars and a $141,300 annual pension. She's earned earned more than $502,000 in extra pension benefits that she could start receiving next year in addition to her six-figure salary.
Normally, Etue's financial parachute would have gotten little, if any attention.
But that's all changed since she posted something on Facebook that trashed athletes who take a knee during the national anthem. Gov. Rick Snyder recently docked her five days of pay for her action.
The ACLU and other groups wanted her fired.
Rep. John Cirkun, D-Roseville, calls the extra pension benefits "exorbitant."
